ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Speaker: Margaret D. Stetz, Department of Women and Gender Studies, University of Delaware

Abstract: »Margaret D. Stetz, Mae and Robert Carter Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Delaware, and co-editor of 'Legacies of the Comfort Women of World War II' (M. E. Sharpe, 2001; Routledge, 2018), will address the controversies over the so-called “comfort women.” For three decades, the issue of Japan’s responsibility for a system of military sexual slavery that involved several hundred thousand underage girls and women from across Asia has posed an intractable problem. Stetz’s talk discusses recent developments – new disputes in the scholarly world, legal rulings in Korea, and attempts by creative artists to shape international public opinion.« (Source: Internet Archive)
